Preparing to Hear - Practical Steps, Part 1

Prepare your heart

Plant analogy – water only soaks into damp soil. Be sure to have a willing obedience, ready to receive and act on what you hear from God.

“Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. He who has ears, let him hear… But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it.” – Matthew 13:8-9;23

Truly delight yourself in the Lord

“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

“The LORD confides in those who fear him; he makes his covenant known to them.” Psalm 25:14

Seek His face constantly to be in a right mindset to seek His hand.

“For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” – 2 Chronicles 16:9

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”– Matthew 6:33

Two Kingdom mindsets that set you apart from the world:

Being rather than Doing – Who is it that God wants you to be? (Friend, lover, priest, king, servant, etc.)

Doing the Right Things, rather than Doing Things Right – What is it that God wants you to do? (To be one in Christ; to disciple nations, not just individuals, to lay down your life, etc.)

Repent

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.” 2 Chronicles 7:14-15
